I love thrift shopping. I’ve been doing it for a few years now, because I think it’s fun that you never know what you’ll find, and you aren’t directly supporting fast fashion. I’m always looking for new pieces to give a second (or third) home to. There are some items I’ve been dreaming of finding for a long time, and here are some of them.
1. Ugly shirts.
I truly love ugly tops with a passion. T-shirts, jackets, sweaters, button-ups. If it’s obnoxious, I will buy it. I found this glorious jacket a few years ago at Goodwill and I wear it way too much, especially during the winter, with very mixed reviews from friends and family.
2. A nice leather (or faux leather) purse.
I’ve been looking for a crossbody style, good quality, brown leather bag for ages. I’ve seen some nicer ones at secondhand stores, but they all seem so small. I’d like one that is big enough to at least fit a composition notebook, plus whatever else I happen to be carrying that day (random garbage, anybody?).
3. Teacups. So many teacups.
I love quirky, kitschy things. Vintage-y teacups are so cute, and you don’t have to just drink out of them. I’ve seen them used as tiny pots for tiny plants, as well as desk/makeup counter decoration and storage. I want a whole army of mismatched teacups.
I’d really like to get a pair of overall pants and customize them like I have been with my oversized denim jacket I got about a year ago. I have buttons, patches, and pins on my jacket, and I plan on doing some embroidery later this year, and I want to do the same to a pair of overalls. I think they’re really cute and cozy, especially for fall.
5. Vintage-y pins/buttons/patches.
And to do that customization, you need things to customize with. I got this beautiful brooch earlier this year, and I’ve been looking for more like it ever since.
Let me know what kinds of things you’ve been looking for at your local thrift shops this fall!
